I work on a lot of athletes. a lot. some of my best success stories have been athletes. working in the sports community is especially challenging because the problems I see in this group of clients is more complex due to the heightened performance demands they place on themselves the intensity of the injuries involved. the work I perform on athletes ranges from very technical myoskeletal orthopedic techniques to very basic deep tissue. there are three major approaches for athletes. they are discussed below.
1. injury therapy
1 an injury is caused by a specific event like a fall, collision, or strain. this usually requires a focused timeframe of therapy from a couple of weeks to several months depending on the injury, how long you’ve
been living with it, your sport, ect. everyone’s recovery time is
different many things influence it.
often this involves more technical work such as myofacial, myoskeletal, orthopedic, range of motion techniques coupled with some basic deep tissue. this approach helps remove obstacles that impede performance.
2. regular maintenance
1 regular maintenance is needed simply because you use your body at higher intensities than most people. think of it like this, a nascar needs more maintenance than a camry. it performs more intensely hence needs more care. poor maintenance can lead to deterioration
of form, pain, limited range of motion, or injury. regular maintenance
involves some technical work but more basic deep tissue coupled
with neuromuscular work. this approach helps prevent injury initially.
3. conditioning, performance enhancement
1 many of my clients stay on top of their therapy very well take it to
the next level. sports conditioning is a therapy whereby the range of
motion flexibility of the athlete is enhanced through resistance
assisted stretching. yoga enthusiasts love this too! this approach helps
prevent injury tap into greater potential.
